Quality outdoor portraits are a timeless tradition that celebrates your family for years. Their popularity has lead to crowds, permits, and compromises just for a single look. Twin Rivers Photography offers an exclusive alternative.
Our Duluth studio serves as a private gateway to 150 acres of protected landscape on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Here, the transition from professional studio to a sunset in a golden field is a seamless, five-minute stroll. That allows for wardrobe changes, unparalleled convenience, inclement weather plans, and a level of calm and privacy that your session deserves.
A luscious, overgrown path extends into the distance, lined on both sides by an arching tunnel of trees. As seasons change, the grass grows to be nearly a foot deep before Autumn greets us with a beautiful bed of golden leaves that lasts through winter.
The water-carved banks of the iconic Chattahoochee River create incredible terrain and depth. Our section of river is also perfectly backlit by the setting sun for immaculate golden-hour portraits.
Just outside the studio is a stunning natural moss lawn under a canopy of hardwood trees. On one end is a mature oak with a pristine mound of moss around it, and on the other, a field of wildflowers.
Just before entering the federally protected forest is a large clearing that is perfectly aligned for golden hour. It features a variety of grass lengths and a backdrop of perfectly sparse woodland to capture and diffuse the late afternoon sun.

Never worry about rain. We offer easy rescheduling or a full indoor session to ensure your shoot stays on track.
Skip the crowds and permits. Our semi-private grounds let us integrate custom props like arches, benches, and bridges.
Our nearby private studio means wardrobe changes and custom props that elevate your shoot.
Start with professional hair and makeup indoors. Then, its just a short, flat walk to all of our scenes.
No matter what time of year you want to shoot, our outdoor portraits make the most of what the landscape has to offer. From spring flowers to autumn leaves, there is never a bad time to book.
From Easter through the end of the semester, Spring marks the start of the growing season. Thin foliage and delicate wildflowers make for perfect backdrops to celebrate families and milestones.
Trees heavy with mature leaves and plants at their fullest keep the forest floor cool and picturesque. Soft, baffled sunlight through the canopy creates perfect conditions for elegant portraits and stunning headshots.
Fall is the most popular time for capturing timeless family portraits. Our woods make a perfect backdrop of deciduous warmth and texture along its many paths and roads.
The open canopies and low sun create the best golden-hour lighting of the year. Celebrate Christmas and the New Year with stunning outdoor portraits.
Whether taking family pictures on a private estate or capturing artistic portraits on a dramatic granite outcrop, we can capture the moment where it happens.
While most of our work takes place in the incredible outdoor spaces adjacent to our studio, we can also travel to your property, nearby botanical gardens, parks, or wherever else your vision takes us. We photograph across Greater Atlanta and Gwinnett County and know the area well enough to match a location to your vision.
Family portraits, maternity, high school senior, couples, children, and even personal branding sessions all translate beautifully to outdoor settings. Natural sunlight and dense foliage add depth and warmth that are hard to replicate in a studio, and the environment itself often becomes part of the story. Best of all, you don’t have to pick just one look; our multitude of indoor and outdoor scenes gives you unparalleled variety.
Spring, from late March through mid-May, brings fresh green before the humidity peaks and works especially well for graduation and family portraits. Summer frames you in a sea of mature greenery. Fall is the most popular for pairing sweaters with the warmth of golden leaves. And winter has a clean, minimal quality that photographs beautifully for dramatic senior and maternity looks. Special occasions don’t wait, and our four-season outdoor settings are ready whenever the time is right for you.
Golden hour, the last 60-90 minutes before sunset, is always the go to favorite for fine portraits. However, our dense canopies and variety of settings allow us to shoot stunning images no matter your schedule.
Wardrobe guidance is part of every session plan. For outdoor settings, soft neutrals, earthy tones, and flowing fabrics tend to photograph beautifully against the colors and textures of trees and foliage. Avoid large busy patterns or neon colors that compete with the environment. We will review your specific location, the season's color tones, and your family's complexions together, and provide opportunities for wardrobe changes to create and capture even more looks.
Either approach works. If you have a meaningful spot in mind, like a family farm or the spot you got engaged, we will build the session around what it offers. However, our stunning woods are what most people choose. During our consultation, we will figure out the right location and looks to give you the photoshoot you have always dreamed of?
We monitor conditions leading up to every outdoor session and reach out early if a reschedule makes sense. If a sudden summer shower rolls in, we will work then we will work around the rain or move into our indoor studio space.
That is actually our most popular option across nearly all of our genres, from personal branding to maternity. Hybrid sessions also allow us more flexibility with lighting and weather conditions. Even if its just an a single indoor set before a long outdoor shoot, our flexibility is unparalleled.
